Ryan and I met in November 2019 at Will and Victoria Abbey's wedding in Destin. Victoria is one of my best friends from pharmacy school at Ole Miss, and Ryan and Victoria have been friends since high school. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would meet my future husband that weekend, but the rest is history.
I was living in Omaha finishing my residency and Ryan was in Orlando starting his first job after dental school. We dated long distance (through COVID and all!) and spent long weekends together in New Smyrna Beach, downtown Orlando, and Omaha until I moved to Orlando in July 2021. My family and friends probably thought I was crazy to quit my job and move across the country for a boy, but it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
New Smyrna Beach has always been a special place for Ryan and I because some of our earliest memories as a couple were spent there. We had plans to go to the beach Easter weekend with Ryan's sister, Meghan, and her husband, Erik. Last minute, Ryan scheduled an electrician to come and decided that he had too much to do around the house to go to the beach that weekend. On Friday morning, the electrician had to cancel the appointment (or so I thought), so we decided to go to the beach after all.
Saturday, April 8 started as a normal beach day for us. As we were laying out in our beach chairs, Ryan announced that he had made dinner reservations for the two of us at 8:30pm that evening. We are 6:00pm dinner people so I couldn't understand why he would schedule dinner that late. I was trying to rack my brain for things to do until 8:30pm, so I suggested that we all go on a walk on the beach before dinner.
After I got ready for dinner, I was sitting on the balcony enjoying a glass of wine and watching the ocean. Ryan was acting strange and kept asking me to come inside to help him peel sweet potatoes for Easter lunch the following day. Little did I know that Ryan had hired a photographer and she was getting set up on the pool deck below the balcony.
We all went on a nice sunset walk on the beach and at the end of our walk, Ryan got down on one knee and proposed. Of course, I SAID YES! So as I said in the beginning, we met at a wedding and now we are getting one of our own! We are so excited to spend the rest of our lives together and cannot wait to celebrate with you!
